Godwin help me

I know I'm probably damning myself to a flood of mob comments, but I think it needs to be said:

"Say what you want about the tenets of National Socialism, at least it's an ethos."

I'll take tyrrany over anarchy any day.

Done now. Bed time.

'Give me liberty, or give me death.'

Posted by: sboatright at September 7, 2005 10:10 PM

Perhaps, but I'd ask whether or not liberty is possible under anarchy...

Posted by: ryan at September 7, 2005 10:13 PM

Probably not, but my hands are tied by your false dichotomy.

Posted by: sboatright at September 7, 2005 10:17 PM

I don't think there's anything false about it. I'm not saying those are the only options, only that if forced to choose between tyrrany or anarchy, I'd prefer tyrrany. What would you choose?

Posted by: ryan at September 8, 2005 07:07 AM

options considered, what's the diff? i see both causing the same amount anxiety and turmoil.

At least with tyrrany, things can still work. Mussolini may have been a bastard, but he's been the only Italian ruler since the fall of Rome who could make the trains run on time. Same goes for the miltary juntas in Chile and Argentina. Not good places to live, but it beats Columbia, Venezuela, Nicarauga, or El Salvador.

I like your style, dude. But do you have to use so much foul language?

Posted by: mesh at September 8, 2005 03:11 PM

were you listening to the dude's story, mello?

Posted by: dp at September 8, 2005 03:23 PM

They finally did it. They killed my fucking car.

Posted by: mesh at September 8, 2005 03:36 PM

If the guy didn't have a chattablogs domain, I'd just blacklist him, but I'll settle for deleting the comment.

Posted by: ryan at September 8, 2005 10:15 PM

What story? I just wanted to use foul language because Mesh said not to. I wasn't commenting on anything.
Sorry if the thread made me look like I was commenting on anything other than that.

You have no frame of reference here, Mello. You're like a child who wanders into the middle of a movie and wants to know...

Posted by: JosiahQ at September 9, 2005 10:20 PM

Ah well. My face is red. I never was very cool.
Although I don't know why my random comments got deleted just because they have no hip cultural context. This is how culture is made, man! Someone has to start saying things first, and then they will be forever quoted as inside jokes on other people's blogs. This may be the phrase of our children's movies, and our children's children. "Monk3y ba5tard m0ther $cratcher"? (I have cleverly disguised it in order not to offend this time and get deleted because of it).
What is wrong with it? Let us take it apart:
"Ba5tard" - maybe offensive, but it's allowed on TV. But it's just descriptive, really.
"Monk3y" - this is just funny. Monkeys are funny. And somehow, I imagine that there are a lot of bastard monkeys. Have you ever been to the zoo?
"m0ther $cratcher" - This phrase goes together, and is also very funny. It is a bit of a parody on another phrase, and so it sounds filthy without being so.
You can delete this one too. I get deleted from the hamdems all the time.

I actually find Mello oddly amusing... and though initially taking you at face value I quickly realized you have a sharp edged dead pan humor. It doesn't come across well in blogs, funerals or political blogs (kind of a blog funeral in its own right).

btw, go tyranny - chaos sucks.
