"Stop the Bop"

A Catholic high school in PA has come up with an utterly terrifying and Constitutionally dubious way of meeting their fundraising goals: play "MMMBop" by Hanson before classes, between classes, and during lunch, until $3000 is collected for the Katrina relief effort.

Oh. My.

Flee. Flee in terror.

Besides the fact that that is cruel, it seems harmful in principle to force students to donate. Aren't they paying enough to go to school there? It would be hard to take a donation from the students seriously when you don't know whether it comes from charitable giving or to avoid something presumably unpleasant.

I'm sure the citizens of New Orleans are deeply concerned whether any of the food money they receive has been coerced from Hanson-hating students. I'm sure they'd ask the school to give it back. Poor, poor private-school victims, robbed blind by bleeding hearts.

Point taken, Mesh. Perhaps I should have elaborated, however. Because this is a Catholic school, I think it appropriate to bring scripture into the argument:

"Each man should give what he has decided in his heart to give, not reluctantly or under compulsion, for God loves a cheerful giver."
2 Corinthians 9:7

That said, I think it is appropriate to question how this was put together.
