Kinda horrifying

So there's this phenomenon in Britain right how where women will "adopt" ultra-realistic life-sized baby dolls and treat them like real children. There's a video documentary on the subject, though only the first clip is currently available online.

Clip 1

I'm not sure I can express just how much this creeps me out.

that is the most terrifying thing i have seen in a long time. you know, that was a (minor) plot point in Children of Men (the p.d. james version, not the movie) -- women purchasing realistic dolls and treating them as children in public. it was intended to be commentary on the dissolution of society... which i suppose this is as well. it's enough to make one a raging natalist.

A grad student at ND who attends my church is doing his doctoral work in sociology on why Protestants just don't seem to care about contraception all that much. Before the 20th century, both Protestants and Catholics strongly opposed any contraceptive method, and it's not entirely clear why the vast majority of Protestants are now not only okay with it, but do not consider it an issue with a moral valence.
