People use their computers for lots of different things. Some people write. Some do email. Some use insanely expensive programs to manage the entire revenue stream for Fortune 500 companies. I use mine as a space heater. That's right: the heat my computer gives off effectively raises the temperature in my apartment by at least a good 10 degrees over the outside air. The current temperature outside is about 65. I swear it's at least 75 in here.

Posted by: James at September 29, 2004 6:09 PMMine gives off very little heat, and it is fairly old. I don't have it over clocked, I only have the standard 2 fans (including the one in the power supply), and a decent heat sink over the processor.
It sounds like it is time for a new computer. :)

Dude, my computer is fine. Athlon 2600+ w/a brand new MSI mainboard and SATA RAID. It's supposed to run about 90 degrees. That's normal. You ever put a laptop on your thighs? It's damn hot.
My computer is custom built by me, and overall, a lot cheaper than anything I could have bought from an OEM. I've spent maybe $300 a year for the past 5 years and have had an almost new computer the whole time. You drop $1200 on a new computer, Mac or PC, and it's obsolete immediately, and to keep the same average you have to wait another 4 years while your computer slowly grinds to a halt. No thanks.
More to the point, I am not only broke, but my net worth is currently a lot less than zero dollars. The longer I spend here the farther below zero it gets.
