From the "wanna bet?" department

A federal judge in - where else? - California has ruled that reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in school is unconstitutional.

Now taking bets as to how fast that one'll get struck down...

That may depend on how long the confirmation process for John Roberts lasts...

Constitutional, unconstitutional. Who cares? The pledge of allegiance is PURPOSELESS, THOUGHTLESS RITUAL. For that reason, it should be voluntarily and hastily discontinued by any rational human being. I mean, "Take Me Out to the Ball Game" has more significance (and that's not saying much).

The email associated with that last comment "shutup" at domain "makeme" indicates a true depth of care and insight on the part of the poster.

Your opinions are noted. They are also voluntarily and hastily discounted by this rational human being.

No, the email simply indicated that I was tired of typing my email address today, since my cookies must have crumbled. You took it WAY too seriously, dude.

I stand by my opinion that reciting the pledge is a purposeless, thoughtless ritual. Incidentally, that means that I agree with those who feel that its atheist detractor in CA is making a uselesss fuss over nothing.

And, I am more pleased than you might surmise that you voluntarily and hastily discount my opinions, since that indicates that you think for yourself.

Have a good day.

I grew up in a strange conservative church/school/community where pledging allegiance to one's country (or a labor union) was considered to be heretical, since it took away from one's allegiance to Christ. No one believed in reciting the pledge of allegiance, so they never taught it to us. It was actually a big consideration in whether we should join the local sports leagues, because they required the national anthem to be played before sporting events.
It is strange to now be in the South, where conservative Christianity is very closely tied to patriotism.
